Customers share heated argument over face masks at Arundel Mills Mall

A heated argument Friday between customers inside a Maryland mall was caught on camera after a woman refused to wear a face mask.|| Coronavirus updates | Maryland’s latest numbers | Where to get tested ||Ronald Harper, the man who recorded the video at the H&M store at Arundel Mills Mall, said that before he pressed record, he noticed a woman refusing to put her on mask after a store employee asked her to do so multiple times.”I don’t care,” the woman is heard saying on the video. “You’re not asking my permission to record me.A store employee is heard on the video, saying: “Ma’am, you need to leave the store.”The woman replied: “So, you need to take that off of your phone.””Stay away from me — 6 feet, at least,” Harper said in the video.Before an employee forced the woman to leave the store, things became heated between the woman and Harper.The woman said on the video: “Where does it say that I need to wear my mask?”Harper: “Right here. Everywhere around. It says it on the speakers.”The woman said on the video: “Where is there a law that states that I need to wear my mask?”Harper: “The state of Maryland requires you to wear a mask.”The woman said on the video: “It does not!”Harper: “What is wrong with you?”The woman said on the video: “It did not go through legislation.”Harper: “You don’t care about people? You want people to die? People are dying of COVID.”Harper spoke Sunday only to 11 News about why he felt he had to do something.”Earlier in the year, I found out that I’m a new diabetic, and that, on top of knowing all of my family has diabetes and I’ve been struggling with my own health and my family’s health — my grandfather just recently found out that he has COVID and my uncle has COVID and my mom is calling me, telling me she is losing her sense of smell — it’s just, like, I don’t understand why somebody could be so selfish with so much going on around you,” Harper said. The woman seen in the video tells 11 News she was misrepresented in the video. She told Tre Ward she was drinking water while in the store, which was the reason she had lowered her mask. She declined to explain her side further to 11 News.WBAL-TV 11 News reached out to both H&M and Arundel Mills Malls for comment and has yet to hear back.
