N.J. weather: Winter storm warning issued for 7 counties as snowfall total forecast

A winter storm warning has been issued for seven New Jersey counties with a large storm set to drop more than a foot of snow and potentially up to 24 inches on a large part of the state by Thursday morning.
The warning is in effect for Sussex, Warren, Morris, Hunterdon, Somerset, Middlesex and Mercer from 10 a.m. Wednesday to 10 a.m. Thursday, the National Weather Service said early Tuesday.
Forecasters say heavy mixed precipitation with at least a foot of snow is expected in Morris, Hunterdon, Somerset, Middlesex and Mercer with snow moving from southwest to northeast late Wednesday morning into the early afternoon. Occasional sleet and freezing rain might mix in at times and a light glaze of ice is possible
The outlook for Sussex and Warren includes even more snow — 20 to 24 inches. Snow is expected to become heavy Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Wind gusts of up to 35 mph are in the forecast for the seven-county area.
The five northeast counties — Berge, Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union — are still under a winter storm watch from Wednesday afternoon into Thursday. Forecasters are calling from 12 to 17 inches of snow in those counties as well as wind gusts of up to 45 mph.
Winter storm watches also remain in effect for Monmouth, Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Salem counties. At least five inches of snow as well as heavy mixed precipitation is in the forecast.
Potential power outages are and impassable roads will be the main hazards.
Minimal snow is expected in coastal Atlantic and Cape May counties.
Forecasters are also calling for wind gusts as high as 40 mph and as much as 50 mph along the Jersey Shore where minor to moderate flooding is possible.
